c.1830 A grand Italianate cut velvet with a stylised foliage design. Striae cut silk velvet on textured golden woven silk gives an astounding effect to the bursting flowers. With the changing surface cut rubies, this sumptuous velvet shines crimson in the light, above a bed of rippling gold, and could be straight out of a painting by Bellini.
