Curved bands with leafy scrollwork
Design 19 combines broad sweeping outlines with slender curling stems and lobed leaves. Within one decorated band, groups of three short bars cross the stems, adding a distinctive detail to the flowing ornament.
Further foliage occupies the curved area towards one corner, while small flowers and partial floral shapes fill the surrounding spaces. The photograph shows buff-coloured decoration against a reddish-brown background.
Exploring the repeating pattern
The bands and botanical details extend towards several edges, so the appearance of this design depends partly on how adjoining tiles are arranged.
