Leafy sprigs within a quatrefoil frame
Design 41 divides its central decoration into four rounded compartments, each containing a stylised leafy sprig pointing towards a corner. Together, the compartments form a quatrefoil around a small circular centre containing a four-pointed cross.
A contrasting outer band carries oval and leaf-shaped details, while trefoil ornaments fill the corners. The photograph shows buff-coloured outlines and foliage, terracotta-red compartments and a dark charcoal-brown band. This illustrates one colour combination.
A complete decorative floor motif
The framed composition fits on one tile, making Design 41 useful as an individual inset among plain geometric tiles. Repeated in aligned rows, it creates a regular arrangement of four-lobed panels and corner ornaments.
For a more restrained floor, space the decorative tiles apart and surround them with plain tiles. Check the dimensions, thickness and colours of adjoining pieces before finalising the layout.
For period property restoration, compare the quatrefoil outline, leafy sprigs, central cross and corner details with the original tiles.
Genuine ceramic encaustic construction
Contrasting coloured clays form the decoration, which extends below the ceramic surface. This is genuine encaustic construction rather than a printed encaustic-effect finish.
Colour options
Alternative colour combinations are available by enquiry. Please contact us to discuss the three-colour arrangement and coordinate it with an existing floor or a new geometric scheme.
