Victorian Encaustic Lion Medallion Floor Tile – 4.25 Inch, Design 6

A lion within a leafy circular frame

Design 6 features a lion facing left, with one forepaw lifted and its long tail curling above its back. The bold silhouette sits within a circular band, with pointed leaves and small curved flourishes extending into all four corners.

The photograph shows buff-coloured decoration against a reddish-brown background. This illustrates one colour combination.

A complete decorative inset

The whole lion medallion fits on one tile, making Design 6 useful as an individual focal point among plain geometric tiles. Repeat it at intervals to introduce a sequence of illustrated accents within a Victorian-style floor.

Keep the lions upright and facing consistently when planning a repeating layout. Position individual insets with the main viewing direction in mind, and compare the dimensions and thickness of adjoining tiles before fixing.

Genuine ceramic encaustic construction

Contrasting coloured clays form the decoration, which extends below the surface of the ceramic tile. This is genuine encaustic construction rather than a printed encaustic-effect finish.

Colour options and restoration

Alternative colour combinations are available by enquiry. The traditional palette includes red, buff, black, white and oatmeal. Please contact us to discuss colours for your chosen design or to coordinate with an existing floor.

For period property restoration, compare the lion’s pose, direction, tail and surrounding frame with the original tile. These details help distinguish similar animal motifs.
