Victorian Encaustic Petal & Spiral Floor Tile – 4.25 Inch, Design 64

Pointed petals and curled ornaments

Design 64 features four broad petals pointing towards the middle of each edge. Narrow contrasting lines extend into the petals from the centre, while four smaller curled ornaments occupy the diagonal spaces between them.

Sweeping bands surround the central arrangement and finish in squared spirals near the corners. The photograph shows buff-coloured decoration against a red background, illustrating one colour combination.

A complete decorative floor motif

The full composition sits within one tile, allowing Design 64 to stand alone as an inset among plain geometric tiles. Its combination of petals, curls and corner spirals also creates a regular ornamental pattern when repeated in aligned rows.

For a more restrained floor, space the decorated tiles apart and frame the area with a simple border. Compare the dimensions, thickness and colours of all adjoining pieces before confirming the layout.

For period property restoration, check the pointed petals, alternating curls and squared spiral ends against the original pattern.

Genuine ceramic encaustic construction

Contrasting coloured clays form the decoration, which extends below the ceramic surface. This is genuine encaustic construction rather than a printed encaustic-effect finish.
