Victorian Encaustic Horse & Hound Floor Tile – 6 Inch, Design 53

A rider, horse and running hound

Design 53 features a rider with one arm raised, seated on a horse facing to the right. The horse’s lifted forelegs and the hound running beneath it bring movement to the composition. Contrasting lines define the reins, harness, saddle and folds of the rider’s clothing.

A pictorial feature for a Victorian floor

Use Design 53 as a decorative inset surrounded by plain geometric tiles, allowing the complete scene to stand out. For a repeating arrangement, keep the figures upright and facing consistently to create a sequence of individual illustrated panels.
